Spring Camp Out Announcement

Spring Troop-wide Campout

March 22-24, 2019

Our Spring 2019 troop-wide camp out is scheduled for the weekend of March 22-24, 2019. The camp out will be held at a location near Bolton, MS (about 45 minutes from Jackson). Details regarding the campsite will follow in the coming weeks. Registration deadline is Tuesday, March 5, 2019.

As with our last event (which was unfortunately cancelled), registration is being handled through our new registration and payment platform hosted by Cheddar Up. You can click the button below to be taken to the payment site. A couple of important things to note:

  1. Each camper (Adult and Trailmen) will need to register separately.

  2. Follow the link to the payment site and complete a registration form, add 1 (and only 1) registration fee to your cart, and then checkout. If you need to register additional campers (yourself or another son), you will need to repeat this process, completing a separate registration form for each participant.

  3. You must pay for each camper in a separate transaction.

  4. Registration fee is $11 per camper.

Once the registration window has closed, we will communicate camp out details with the registrants. If you have any questions about the event, or the registration process, please contact Troopmaster Brad Hatchett (troopmaster@traillife1031.org).

Trail Life Starting Soon - Important Dates

Thanks for your patience while we firmed up plans for the semester.  We've been in a bit of a holding pattern waiting on new program materials to be released for the Woodlands Trail Unit, so we are bit behind the curve getting things kicked off.  That said, we are ready to get things going and excited to be getting back into a regular routine!  The following are important dates for everyone to make note of:

Monday, August 28, 2017 - Leaders' meeting

This gathering is for all the existing leaders (all registered adult leaders for the troop) AND any other dads who are not currently registered but interested in helping out with the troop.  We need as many leaders as we can muster to make the program a success, so we ask all you dads to consider rolling up your sleeves and helping out.  No prior "scouting" or camping experience required.  We can use any of your talents and abilities!  More details to follow this coming week.

SUNDAY, September 10, 2017 - Welcome Back Outdoor Activity

This is something new we are doing this year.  We thought it would be fun to get as many of the boys, leaders, and dads together for a day of outdoor fun to welcome everyone back and get reacquainted.  Our hope is to make this a fun annual tradition for the troop!  More details will follow soon, but mark your calendars and make plans to attend this special event.  If you have friends that may be interested in joining TLUSA, this would be a great way to get them introduced to the Trailmen, leaders, and other parents.  Potential recruits are welcome!

Monday, September 18, 2017 - First Official Meeting

This will be our first official meeting of the school year.  In usual fashion, it will be held at POPC in the gym from 6:15-7:30.

Remember that our regular meetings for the year will fall on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Monday nights throughout the school year, with a few selected breaks for major holidays.  The troop-wide calendar will be posted soon, so stay tuned for more on this.

If you have any questions about the leaders' meeting, the welcome back activity, or the first meeting of the year, do not hesitate to give Troopmaster Brad Hatchett a call (601-832-4040), or send him an email at troopmaster@traillife1031.org.

We are also looking to recruit new boys for the troop, so if you know anyone interested, please share this blog post with them.  We will also be posting something on Facebook that you can share.  If you haven't liked our facebook page (www.facebook.com/troopms1031).

First Trail Life Meeting for 2016-17 Season

Tomorrow night is our kickoff Trail Life meeting for the 2016-17 school year.  We will meet from 6:15-7:30 PM in the gym at Pear Orchard Presbyterian.

Here are some important announcements of which to be aware:

  1. When you arrive, there will be a sign-in table in the lobby of the gym.  Please stop and sign your trailman(men) in so we will have a record of their attendance.  When the meeting is over, please be sure to sign them out so we will know that everyone is accounted for.
  2. We will gather the boys by unit/patrol from 6:15-6:30 as follows.  Since this is our first meeting this year, if you are parent to a k5-5th grade boy, please escort your Trailmen to their area so you can meet your son's patrol leader.  Navigator/Adventurer parents (6th-12th grade) are also welcome to come to the gathering area and meet the leaders as well (if you don't already know them):
    • Back Left Corner - Fox Patrol (K-1st Grade)
    • Back Right Corner - Mt. Lion Patrol (4th-5th Grade)
    • Front Left Corner (near stage) - Hawk Patrol (2nd-3rd)
    • Back right Corner (y outh room) - Navigators/Adventurers (6th-12th grade)
  3. We will begin dues collection tomorrow night.  Dues are $55 per Trailman.  Andy Clark, our Treasurer, will be present to collect dues at the registration table.  You can pay with Cash or check made payable to Trail Life Troop MS1031.  If program costs are a concern, please separately talk with myself or Andy Clark.
  4. If you are parent to a New Navigator (6th graders), please also bring $15 to cover the cost of the Trailman's Handbook.
  5. If you are new to our program and would like information on the program and our plans for the year, we will hold a parents informational meeting around 6:40 while the boys are engaged in their activities.
  6. We will wrap up our meeting just prior to 7:30.  Please be back to collect your Trailmen by 7:30.  Please make every effort to be prompt as we cannot close down the gym until all the boys have been picked up.
