Navigator/Adventurer Okatoma Kayak Trip - September 7, 2019

Saturday, September 7, 2019, the Navigator and Adventurer units will be taking a kayaking trip down the Okatoma Creek. This trip is open to trailmen and dads. The cost of the trip will be $32 which includes the kayak rental and the cost of transportation to/from the outdoor post and the river. All participants will be responsible for their own drinks, snacks, and lunch for the trip.

We will plan to leave from the church at 8:00 AM on Saturday and return late afternoon (between 4 and 5 PM). More information will follow regarding suggested packing list, and other logistical details.

Registration should be completed by Sunday, September 1, 2019 via the CheddarUp registration link below. If you are planning to take your own kayak, you can register without paying the $32 fee.

2019-2020 Welcome Back Outing - August 17, 2019

On Saturday, August 17 we will be hosting our annual welcome back event. It will be held at the Gamblin’s property in Star, MS and is open to all troop members (Woodlands Trail youth must be accompanied by a parent or guardian). The event will be from 11:00-1:00 and burgers, hot dogs, and drinks will be provided. We ask that all participating families either bring chips or a desert (to feed 8-10). There will be swimming, food and fellowship.

This event is also open to prospective families, so if you know someone interested in Trail Life USA, please invite them to attend.

NOTE: For all boys in the Navigator and Adventurer units (6-12 grade) - including those boys promoting up to the Navigator Unit this fall - we will be hosting a special activity from 9:00-11:00. This will be to provide an opportunity for the boys to get their swim certification (Required for all water activities), and to begin some skills training for the kayaking trail badge. This is in preparation for a kayaking trip on the Okatoma Creek planned for September. All boys ages 11-17 (6th-12 grade) are invited to join us for this 2 hour session. If you already have your swim certification, please come on so you can participate in the kayaking session.

All families should register for this event by clicking the link below to register on our event registration platform (CheddarUp). There is no fee for this event, but registration is requested to get a headcount for lunch, and the special Nav/Adv session, as well as for you to indicate if you are bringing chips and desert.

Spring Camp Out Announcement

Spring Troop-wide Campout

March 22-24, 2019


Our Spring 2019 troop-wide camp out is scheduled for the weekend of March 22-24, 2019. The camp out will be held at a location near Bolton, MS (about 45 minutes from Jackson). Details regarding the campsite will follow in the coming weeks. Registration deadline is Tuesday, March 5, 2019.

As with our last event (which was unfortunately cancelled), registration is being handled through our new registration and payment platform hosted by Cheddar Up. You can click the button below to be taken to the payment site. A couple of important things to note:

  1. Each camper (Adult and Trailmen) will need to register separately.

  2. Follow the link to the payment site and complete a registration form, add 1 (and only 1) registration fee to your cart, and then checkout. If you need to register additional campers (yourself or another son), you will need to repeat this process, completing a separate registration form for each participant.

  3. You must pay for each camper in a separate transaction.

  4. Registration fee is $11 per camper.

Trail Life Starting Soon - Important Dates

Thanks for your patience while we firmed up plans for the semester.  We've been in a bit of a holding pattern waiting on new program materials to be released for the Woodlands Trail Unit, so we are bit behind the curve getting things kicked off.  That said, we are ready to get things going and excited to be getting back into a regular routine!  The following are important dates for everyone to make note of:


Monday, August 28, 2017 - Leaders' meeting

This gathering is for all the existing leaders (all registered adult leaders for the troop) AND any other dads who are not currently registered but interested in helping out with the troop.  We need as many leaders as we can muster to make the program a success, so we ask all you dads to consider rolling up your sleeves and helping out.  No prior "scouting" or camping experience required.  We can use any of your talents and abilities!  More details to follow this coming week.

SUNDAY, September 10, 2017 - Welcome Back Outdoor Activity  

This is something new we are doing this year.  We thought it would be fun to get as many of the boys, leaders, and dads together for a day of outdoor fun to welcome everyone back and get reacquainted.  Our hope is to make this a fun annual tradition for the troop!  More details will follow soon, but mark your calendars and make plans to attend this special event.  If you have friends that may be interested in joining TLUSA, this would be a great way to get them introduced to the Trailmen, leaders, and other parents.  Potential recruits are welcome!

Monday, September 18, 2017 - First Official Meeting

This will be our first official meeting of the school year.  In usual fashion, it will be held at POPC in the gym from 6:15-7:30.


Remember that our regular meetings for the year will fall on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Monday nights throughout the school year, with a few selected breaks for major holidays.  The troop-wide calendar will be posted soon, so stay tuned for more on this.
